About the program
From informative interview to confrontational interrogation
In investigation, information gathering and risk management it is important to conduct conversations purposefully and to collect and assess information carefully.
In this program we use interview broadly as an umbrella term, with a clear distinction between informative interviews and confrontational interviews (interrogations). During the program you learn to apply practical and effective techniques for conducting conversations and interviews.

A defining feature of the program is its integrated approach: interview techniques are combined with statement analysis, paralinguistics and the interpretation of body language. You are introduced to a range of scientifically grounded methods, including the PEACE interview method and cognitive questioning techniques.
What you learn
Classroom skills training and e-learning
The program combines intensive classroom training with in-depth e-learning:
Informative and confrontational
The distinction between informative interviews and confrontational interviews (interrogations), each with its own purpose, approach and context.
Reading (non-)verbal signals
You develop an awareness of your own conversational style and learn to observe and interpret verbal and non-verbal behavior in others in relation to the context.
In-depth, structured questioning
Cognitive questioning techniques, the PEACE method and structuring interviews through encircling and funnelling, supported by around eight hours of e-learning.
The classroom training is the heart of the program; the e-learning is used for support, repetition and depth. This creates a coherent learning path in which knowledge, practice and application reinforce each other.

The program is a coherent set of topics, delivered partly in the classroom and partly via e-learning. Skills training and interaction mainly take place in the classroom; theory, repetition and depth are largely offered through the e-learning.

From preparation to statement
Every conversation follows the same line: you prepare strategically, build professional contact and a workable conversational relationship, and consciously choose between an informative interview and a confrontational interrogation.
During the conversation you observe verbal and non-verbal behavior and take this, together with the content and the context, into account when choosing your follow-up questions. This way you can carefully ask for, test and record relevant information.
This is how you work towards a clear statement and a transparent, verifiable record, ready for your investigation or file.

Who is this program developed for?
This program is developed for professionals who conduct conversations in order to gather information, identify risks or assess statements.
Think of fraud investigators, compliance officers, KYC, AML/CFT and FEC specialists, client acceptance staff, claims handlers, loss adjusters, HR professionals, confidential advisers and integrity investigators. Professionals who interview witnesses or other parties in internal or external investigations, due diligence or integrity investigations also belong to the target group.
Whether you speak with clients, colleagues, witnesses or other parties, this training offers insights for anyone who wants to safeguard the integrity of conversations, learn to assess possible signals of stress, tension or incongruence carefully and gather and analyze information in a structured way. The program prepares you for both physical and digital conversation settings.
Certification & accreditation
A recognized SPEN register diploma
Our training institute has been assessed and registered with the CRKBO, the Central Register for Short Vocational Education. After completing the classroom days and the e-learning you receive:

This is an accredited registered program that has been assessed and accredited. IACA is the only training organization in Europe authorized to award this SPEN register diploma. The program is also part of the accredited Private Investigator Practical Diploma®.
The program is completed during and after the classroom days. The assessment is based on active participation in the classroom components, applying the techniques taught in exercises and completing the accompanying e-learning in full. Once the program has been completed properly and in full, you receive the SPEN register diploma.
NIVRE awards 6 PE points to its registered experts on completion of this program.
The combination of intensive classroom skills training and in-depth e-learning creates a coherent learning path you can apply in practice straight away.

Open, private or customized
While this program is usually offered as an open program, we understand that you may need a private setting given the nature of your work. With at least twelve participants, we can provide a private training session at our location. We also offer tailored programs based on parts of this program. We are happy to put together a suitable proposal.
All private programs can be offered in Dutch or English.
All our instructors are screened and have signed non-disclosure agreements with various government agencies. A specific non-disclosure agreement for your organization or service is also possible.
